Rock and River Ice Park!
Since the 1980s, Rock and River’s been professionally introducing individuals to the rapidly changing sport of ice climbing. From the days of straight shafted tools, hard to place screws and difficult to use crampons to the high-tech light and efficient gear of today, our guide service has lived through the evolutionary advancements the sport has undergone. Always seeking ways to better serve clientele,
Rock and River, in many ways, has been responsible for ushering in the “new age” of ice climbing to the region. From our eye opening clinics of the 1990s (taught by western based professionals Jeff Lowe, Alex Lowe etc.) to our continual maintenance and discovery of new routes/areas as well as our writing and publishing of guidebooks to the Adirondacks, our service has heavily influenced the local climbing scene.
Continuing in this vein,
Rock and River is proud to announce the development of the area’s first outdoor ice park! Employing a real cliff (over 250 feet long and 75 feet high) located on private land, we now can handle groups (up to 20 people - 10 separate top- ropes) as well as individuals on busy weekends with
no rushing, uncertainty or site competition. While the
“walk in” is less than 30 seconds, we feel that the best news (particularly for women) is that the park comes complete with its own outhouse - a two seater non-the-less!!!
With more and more parties vying for a limited number of high quality, easily accessible ice climbing sites, the local climbing scene has become downright crowded. For those groups and individuals that crave a more relaxed, fun experience at a guaranteed site, the
Rock and River Ice Park is just the ticket!
