Ice Report

Updated: 2/3/2012 9:56:20 AM

WARNING - Please read:

Ice climbing is truly a dangerous activity. Care and judgment born out of experience are imperative. Weather and ice conditions change hourly and what may appear to be "good conditions" to one climber may not be so to another. Please remember that just because a conditions report says that a particular climb is "in", each individual is ultimately responsible for making his/her own climbing decisions.

GENERAL SCENE

Friday 2/3. Rain hit again this past Wednesday but it appears we may be rain and thaw free this week. Sunny days and nice climbing temps with fairly cold nights are predicted. The big snow storm currently out west is predicted to head south of us thus the worst snow year in my 24 years of running Rock and River continues without any real snowfalls. I can see patches of grass and a parking lot of ice out my window. Actually the ice climbing is ok and so is the hiking...just the skiiers and snow shoers are out of luck...

CLIMBS/AREAS

CHAPEL POND REGIONThe canyon climbs are fine as is Chouinard's, Crystal Ice Tower and White Line Fever...Power Play and area are not in ...Last year Power Play never really came in....More snow would certainly help...

CASCADE PASS REGION The Pitchoff  - Cascade Pass practice climbs are in. The Sister's are in as is the Quarry...Cascade Ice Dance isn't in...Cascade Falls is climbable...

NORTH SIDE OF PITCHOFF - Decent climbing!

Avalanche The
Pass -  The climbs just before the Lake on the right are in as usual. Avalanche Mountain Gully has been climbed and was really fun but tough at the exit. Adirondike looked climbabale but not very thick yet.  not sure about current conditions...
