WARNING - Please read: Ice climbing is truly a dangerous activity. Care and judgment born out of experience are imperative. Weather and ice conditions change hourly and what may appear to be "good conditions" to one climber may not be so to another. Please remember that just because a conditions report says that a particular climb is "in", each individual is ultimately responsible for making his/her own climbing decisions.
GENERAL SCENE - Monday. Final report! There is still some fat ice as of 4/7 but it is wet and mushy. Diehards could still climb if nights stay cold but we're officially done! Gothics could be good for a few more weeks - especially if we hit another cold streak and keep having cold nights! See you next winter - I'm off to Disneyworld!!! Let me know what anyone has done or found out in the backcountry... CLIMBS/AREAS
CASCADE PASS REGION - Done NORTH SIDE OF PITCHOFF - Still some ice but melting slowly and steadily... POKE-O-MOONSHINE - Done! Rock season begins! MINEVILLE PILLAR - Done ROARING BROOK FALLS - Done MULTI-GULLEY - Probably not worth it! CHILLAR PILLAR - Done Remote/Back Country Climbs
Avalanche Pass - Fading...The Dyke would be fun if early in the morning after a cold night! Pharaoh Mountain - Done Gothics North face - Could be excellent if done early after a cold night. I'm hoping to get on it in late April to beat my own late date on it (4/23 is my own record)... Underwood canyon - ? Palisades on Lake Champlain - Done Elk Pass - Mushy - probably not worth the hike anymore...
